Compare care routes

A form, a video call or a visit in a room

Separate how you share your history from how the clinician reaches a decision. The useful comparison is what each format lets you ask and answer.

What each format leaves to check

A form read later

An asynchronous visit means you send information and the clinician reviews it at another time.

A form reviewed later may begin care only if the clinician can assess you properly; the medical-board advice was checked on September 26, 2026.

That guidance suggests an approach for state boards; it does not itself make law.

Ask how the clinician can request missing details.

Ask how you can reply or add a question of your own.

A live conversation

For a video or phone visit, write down what you want to discuss before the call begins.

Ask whether the chosen format can answer the medical question.

Ask what happens if the connection fails.

Ask how an examination would be arranged if the conversation calls for one.

The form is not the whole test

State rules differed at the September 26, 2026 check, so a form alone cannot be judged by a single national rule.

The guidance rejects care based only on a fixed form when the clinician cannot ask more questions or gather the information needed to assess you.

Look for a clear way to ask and answer follow-up questions.

Request an explanation if the service moves straight from your choice to a proposed prescription.

Ask which rules apply in the state where you will receive care.
